3 Ways to Ground Yourself When Life Feels Chaotic

This morning, as I was writing my daily energy post in my Facebook group, I realized something important: it’s not enough to know what’s happening around us - we also need tools to handle it.
Because whether it’s a busy day, a racing mind, or the pull of emotions, we all have those moments when we feel scattered, overstimulated, or “up in the clouds.” That’s when grounding practices become our lifeline.
Here are three simple, soulful ways to ground yourself - tools you can return to any time you need balance and calm.
1. Move your mind through your body
When your thoughts feel stuck on repeat, give them a way out through movement. Physical motion helps circulate mental energy so it doesn’t get trapped in your head.
This doesn’t need to be a full workout - just gentle movement. Stretch, take a short walk, sway to music in your kitchen, or do a few shoulder rolls. Notice how your mind softens when your body takes the lead.
Quick exercise: Stand up, roll your shoulders back 3 times, stretch your arms overhead, then exhale with a big sigh. Repeat twice and feel the shift.
2. Ground through your feet
Often, when we feel overwhelmed, our energy pools in the head and leaves us disconnected from the rest of the body. Grounding your feet brings that energy back down.
Take a moment to stand tall, plant both feet firmly on the floor, and imagine roots growing deep into the earth. As you breathe, let the tension in your head, neck, and shoulders melt downward, flowing out through the soles of your feet.
Quick exercise: Wherever you are right now, pause. Place both feet flat on the ground, close your eyes, and inhale deeply. On your exhale, imagine sending any heaviness down into the earth. Repeat for 1 minute.
3. Quiet your thoughts with journaling
Sometimes the mind feels so loud that even the simplest tasks are hard. Journaling creates space by taking those swirling thoughts and giving them a safe container.
Grab a notebook (or even your phone’s notes app) and free-write whatever comes up - worries, frustrations, hopes, or questions. Let it pour out without censoring. Often, the very act of seeing your thoughts on paper releases their grip.
Quick exercise: Set a timer for 5 minutes. Write nonstop whatever comes to mind, without editing or overthinking. When the timer ends, close the notebook and take one deep, grounding breath.
A gentle reminder ✨
Grounding is not about being perfect or “fixing” yourself. It’s about remembering that you are human, with a mind that thinks, a body that feels, and a heart that longs for peace.
You are worthy of slowing down. You are worthy of feeling calm. And no matter what’s happening around you, there is always a way back to balance. Even the smallest step - one deep breath, one written word, one moment of stillness - is enough.
Come back to these tools whenever life feels too loud. Your peace is not only possible - it’s your birthright. 🌿
